Escape To Freedom
A short story for your enjoyment
Frank and Nancy had come to a sudden steep gradient that was almost a sheer drop down 500 feet. On the run from their pursuers this might be a perfect place to set up a trap. And they had about two hours before their pursuer would catch up to them.
They quickly set up a tripwire running a length of cordage through several trees about ankle height. It was a new type of paracord that was transparent it was done up tight enough to cause the people after them to trip and they will hopefully take a header down the slope and get injured enough for Frank and Nancy to escape permanently.
As soon as they had their tripwire set up where they would be confident that it would delay their pursuers they took careful steps down the hill, no sense in getting themselves injured while trying to escape.
A few minutes later when they reached the bottom they took off running again. They had 20 miles to go before they could reach their vehicle that they would drive to the other end of the country and use their new identities to stay in hiding for the rest of their lives.
After half an hour running they slowed to a brisk walking pace, despite the urgency of getting away from their adversaries, they also had to conserve their energy for any possible fight that might ensue. For all they knew there could be opponents coming from the other direction. And So every hundred feet…
